Getting to Koh Samui is a bit of an adventure, but we promise it’s worth it. There are no direct flights from the UK or Australia, so you’ll need to connect via Phuket, Bangkok or Singapore before hopping on a short flight over to Koh Samui, where the island has its own international airport (and it’s got to be one of the prettiest airports in the world).

Rocky’s is a 30 minute drive from the airport. The hotel offers airport transfers which can be booked in advance with Hannah at wedding@rockyresort.com

If you have the time, we recommend staying a night or two along the way to break up the journey.

Phuket

We recommend staying in Nai Yang which only 5 mins from airport. It is a nice, laidback beach town with lots of food options right on the beach. In terms of hotels - Kokotel is comfortable, inexpensive and just a short walk from town. Do not stay at L’Espirit.

Note: it will be monsoon season in Phuket so we suggest spending just one night here to get over the flight.

Bangkok

Recommended areas to stay are Khao San Road, Sukhumvit & Siam.

Things to do:

  • Khao San Road (famous party street)

  • The Grand Palace

  • Chinatown for nightly food market

  • Chatuchak Weekend Market

  • Lebua at State Tower (Hangover 2 Rooftop Bar)

  • Floating Markets

Singapore

We stayed at JEN Singapore Orchardgateway by Shangri-La in Orchard which was a great layover spot with a rooftop pool and plenty of restaurants around. Chinatown is also a great area to stay for first-timers. 

Our top tip: Eat at the Hawker markets.

Things to do:

  • Gardens by the Bay and the Cloud Forest

  • Long Bar at Raffles (a must!)

  • Explore Little India and Chinatown

  • Skyline Luge on Sentosa Island

  • Changi Airport Waterfall (this is outside the airport)
